The article examines the lexical-stylistic and contextual-pragmatic categories of science-fiction prose through Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel Klara and the Sun. It aims to reveal how familiar lexical items acquire new meanings in a near-future social order, how technological and institutional nominations shape the fictional world, and how presupposition, implicature, epistemic modality and speech acts function in the discourse of a nonhuman narrator. The analysis shows that the novel produces estrangement through semantic reconfiguration, functional naming, personification and a restricted perceptual viewpoint rather than through an abundance of technical neologisms.
