This article examines the concept of asceticism in Christian doctrine, its historical formation, theological foundations, and practical manifestations within Orthodox Christianity. The study analyzes the development of ascetic thought based on Biblical texts, the role of Jesus Christ and the Apostolic tradition, as well as ascetic practices reflected in the Philokalia. Particular attention is paid to the stages of Orthodox asceticism, the struggle against passions, and the concept of holiness as a path to spiritual perfection.
